John Cena has been creating quite a buzz on social media for the past few days. First, it was because of his movie, Fast and Furious 9’s early success at the Box Office, but it soon turned into a controversy.

Cena got a massive backlash from his Chinese fanbase after he called Taiwan a country in one of his promotional videos for F9. In reality, the People’s Republic of China perceives Taiwan as part of its nation, despite the latter being a separate country since 1949.
After the backlash, Cena promptly opted for an apology on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform similar to Twitter. He vehemently apologized for the mishap and even used his newfound Mandarin skills for the apology.

“Hi China, I’m John Cena. I’m in the middle of Fast and Furious 9 promotions. I’m doing a lot of interviews. I made a mistake in one of my interviews. Everyone was asking me if I could use Chinese–[movie] staff gave me a lot of information, so there was a lot of interviews and information,” said Cena.
“I made one mistake. I have to say something very, very, very important now, I love and respect China and Chinese people. I’m very, very sorry about my mistake. I apologise, I apologise, I’m very sorry. You must understand that I really love, really respect China and the Chinese people. My apologies. See you.”

The video got viral soon after its release. Many fans praised Cena’s use of Mandarin, while some fans criticized, and pointed out that Cena did not call Taiwan a part of China in the video.
WWE is reportedly unhappy with John Cena
Andrew Zarian, an industry insider, revealed the current status of Cena in WWE. He wrote, “This John Cena apology is NOT going over well at WWE right now.”Apparently, Cena’s mishap and apology reached the headquarters of WWE. Nick Khan, Vince McMahon, and their entourage are not happy with the apology.

WWE might be furious following the apology because the apology might lead WWE to have some troubled waters with China’s neighbors. WWE is already planning to expand its territory into the south and southeast Asian territory.
