Haus of Wrestling reported that Rey Mysterio was struggling with his knee for quite some time. He had a torn meniscus for nearly three months as the injury worsened. Fans can expect Mysterio to be out for nearly 6-8 weeks but he will recover in time for the WrestleMania week.

Keeping Mysterio’s injury in mind, WWE made the right decision to take the Championship off his shoulder. They also made Santos take a heel turn and inflict a kayfabe injury to keep the storyline going. It is a common technique that WWE uses to continue storylines despite major breaks within an ongoing storyline.
