Ridge Holland has had a rocky career in NXT. The once midcarder has gained notoriety for injuring his opponents in matches. While this could be harmful to his career and reputation, NXT still has him around in matches. After injuring the likes of Big E, he continued his streak of injuries even after his return. Fed up with all the accusations, Holland took out his frustration on his opponent during his match tonight.

Holland became infamous after injuring The New Day’s Big E, followed by Dragunov during his matches with them. This led fans to believe he was bad to work with.

Despite coming back to NXT and claiming that he would improve himself and change, it looks like Holland did not. After dropping Big E during their match, Holland did the same with Ilja Dragunov, the NXT Champion. This led fans to believe that nothing had changed in a year.

With this perspective in their minds, fans began to boo Holland in all his matches. Whether it was a kayfabe injury to build his story or was it real, the fans did not know. This resulted in every match of Holland echoing with boos. While the injury Dragunov sustained was kayfabe, the results of the booing were not.

During his Gauntlet match against Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, and Wolfgang, something snapped inside Holland. During the match, Holland picked up a steel chair and unloaded it on all three men. Officials had to enter the ring in order to make Holland stop. This is where things got even more interesting, as Holland acted as if he had come out of a trance and dropped the chair in disbelief.

A new dawn and gimmick for Holland?

The speculation as to why Holland acted this way by the fans is that NXT is heading for a ‘snapped’ angle. Since we know the injury Dragunov sustained was kayfabe, we know NXT has something in mind. The angle that they could be headed in could be an unhinged Holland who destroys everyone who gets in his way.

While the kayfabe injury to Dragunov could’ve been done in any way, NXT chose to mirror what happened in reality to Big E. This is the foundation of Holland’s portrayal as an unsafe wrestler.
