The Monday Night Wars was a monumental period in the history of WWE and WCW. The pro wrestling world witnessed some of the greatest moments in that period. Superstars jumping ship from one promotion to another and the battle for ratings spiced up the era.
Ultimately, WCW succumbed and got merged with WWE. That being said, former WCW President Eric Bischoff believes that Sean Waltman’s departure, combined with Mike Tyson‘s involvement, played a huge role in WWE’s victory.

Road Dogg believes Waltman was important for WWE’s turnaround
Recently, during the 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff stated he believes X-Pac was a big reason that WWE beat WCW. He said, “Waltman was a huge shot in the arm for [WWE]. I’ll never change my opinion when I tell you that Sean Waltman was as important to the turnaround for WWE than just about anything else, including Mike Tyson.”
While speaking during Oh You Didn’t Know? podcast, Road Dogg confessed that he totally agrees with former WCW Executive producer, stating that Waltman was as important as Iron Mike in WWE winning the Monday Night Wars. He claims the 50-year-old legend sure was an important factor in WWE’s rating victory.

Dogg said, “Like Sean played a huge role. He was he came over in June; you know what I mean? He did play a huge role. And I’ve been arguing for my role for the past 15 minutes. So I feel like, I feel like we were pivotal. You know what I mean? And it’s not like if they didn’t have us, it wouldn’t have happened, but I don’t know, maybe wouldn’t have.”
After jumping ship from WCW to WWE, Sean Waltman became X-PAC and found success with the D-Generation X stable, that included Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Road Dogg, and Chyna.
Apart from Waltman, there were other factors that contributed to WWE’s victory over WCW.
Downfall of WCW
Waltman was a top star in WCW and went by the name Syxx. In 1998, he decided to jump ship and went to WWE. Pro wrestling fans then came to know him as X-Pac. Bischoff believes that his leaving WCW for WWE started the journey of WCW’s downfall. And it looks like Road Dogg has a similar point of view.
One of the turning points in the Monday Night Wars WWE brought Mike Tyson into the picture despite his ongoing controversy about Evander Holyfield‘s ear biting. WWE was losing to WCW for over a year in terms of ratings. To deal with this, Vince McMahon involved the boxing legend in a storyline with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Several appearances on RAW and the boxing star betraying Shawn Michaels and joining hands with Austin in WrestleMania 14 became a turning point for WWE. In the subsequent months, WWE RAW started beating WCW Nitro in ratings and three years later, WWE purchased WWE.
