I said your grandfathers a wrestler, I’m a wrestler, so if I’m gonna train you, I’m gonna train you 150% and I was hard on him, but he never gave up. Then one day he was falling around and I said, ‘Look, if you sympathy go home to your mother and get it’. He said, ‘That’s where I’m going’.”
The Rock’s father added, “He walked all the way home two miles. When I got home, his mother didn’t want to speak to me. (She yelled), ‘What you’re doing to our son? You making him walk in the ring? I said, ‘Because he is crawling around. You wanna do this, you have to take it serious. I took it serious. It’s my life and my career.’”
DJ’s mother always cared for him and was not able to see her son struggle that way. Even though The Rock was being trained by his father, Ata Johnson wanted The Soulman to not give him such a tough time.
However, the former WWE tag team champion had other plans. He wanted his son to be tough in the ring and it is safe to say Johnson was successful in teaching ‘DJ’. After all, he went on to become one of the most famous WWE personalities.
