Sami Zayn Compares Himself to WWE Legend Owen Hart

WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn is a bit of a character. Maybe a ‘bit of a character’ is an underestimation of his insatiable antics. On Twitter, Zayn drew comparisons between him and another incredible Canadian wrestler. Zayn posted a photograph of him holding two ‘Sami awards’, and right next to it is Owen Hart holding two Slammy Awards.

Sami Zayn and Owen Hart are in the top ten list of best Canadian wrestlers. While neither of them can approach the greatness of Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, or even Kenny Omega, their individual brilliance carried them to the top of WWE. They were two breakout stars of different generations.

Owen Hart broke out of his brother’s shadow in 1994. He faced Bret in what was the greatest WrestleMania opening match of all time. Owen beat his brother in a technical classic. After 20 grueling minutes of exciting back-and-forth action, Owen pinned Bret with a surprise roll-up pin. From then on, the WWF considered Owen to be a potential main event talent.
Sami Zayn was NXT’s heart and soul. Debuting in 2013, Zayn would put on two exhilarating classics with Antonio Cesaro. The first match was a two-out-of-three falls match on August 23rd, 2013. Zayn put up a great fight, but Cesaro was too good for the NXT upstart. Despite losing, it properly introduced Zayn to the NXT Universe.
The tragedy of Owen Hart

Owen Hart was indeed one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Along with being a brilliant technician, he was also a hoot to be on the road with. Many superstars from WWE’s New Generation era have narrated tales of Owen’s mischief and the hilarious pranks he played on his fellow wrestlers.

From Vince McMahon to his own father, Stu Hart, Owens has punked almost every superstar on the roster. Hart was also a former King of the Ring. He challenged his brother at SummerSlam 1994 in a five-star classic steel cage match for the WWF Title. Owen was also the infamous wrestler who broke Stone Cold Steve Austin’s neck while attempting a sit-out Tombstone Piledriver.
On May 23rd, 1999, Owen Hart fell to his death from the rafters at Kemper Arena in Missouri. Hart was scheduled to take on The Godfather for the Intercontinental Championship at the Over the Edge PPV. He tragically lost his life after his head supposedly hit the turnbuckle as he fell from a terrifying height of 78 feet.
