While the intrigue at the beginning of his career, the announcer told us The Undertaker was from Death Valley, the hometown of the Phenom is actually Houston, Texas. He is a proud American citizen, and it shows as he wore the blue and red flag on an episode of Monday Night Raw. This was done to reveal that he was a part of the then Survivor Series team, the All-Americans.

But as it turns out, The Undertaker hated doing that. When asked why, he told at The Bump that it didn’t feel appropriate for his character at the time. Ever since then, we have never seen The Phenom don that cape ever again.

When touring for the ticket release party of WrestleMania 38, The Undertaker was in his hometown, Houston. Here, he was asked a lot of questions about WWE and his two favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. Before the Dallas Cowboys game that Sunday, there was a ‘Salute to Service’ and the Undertaker had some really heartfelt emotions about it. When the Dallas Morning News asked him about attending the ceremony, he said,

I don’t think people really realize how much that our veterans and our service members, what they mean to me. So, it was really nice being here for that. And then to hear Lee Greenwood at halftime sing ‘God Bless the USA’. That song will still bring a tear to a glass eye. That’s just, to me, that’s like our second national anthem, really.

In the interview, the Deadman mentioned Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the USA. A 1984 song that is wholly patriotic and reached its peak of No. 16 after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Many Americans believe it to be one of the most patriotic country songs to be put to the page. And The Undertaker doesn’t think any different.

Songs like God Bless the USA bring emotion to the listener that reminds them of an experience, just like the theme song of The Undertaker. ‘Rest in Peace’ became synonymous with the public, and the instant that one hears the sound of the first bell brings tears to our eyes. Seeing such a legend leave the wrestling ring is truly heartbreaking.
