Seth Rollins Blinds Rey Mysterio After Vicious Attack on WWE RAW

An eventful night for Becky Lynch was turned around by her fiance Seth Rollins. A few hours after Lynch made the news of her pregnancy public, Rollins seemed to have snapped. A backstage segment shows Rey Mysterio congratulating Rollins, but the latter did not respond. No one could imagine what happened later that night between these two versatile wrestlers.

Rey Mysterio brutalized by Rollins

The ‘Lucha Legend’ Rey Mysterio partnered with Aleister Black to take on the ‘Monday Night Messiah’ and Murphy in a tag team match. During the match, Rollins just stood on the apron, which made Murphy fight a 2 on 1 battle throughout the match, as Rollins watched apathetically.

As the match was drawing to a conclusion with Mysterio about to hit the 619 on Murphy, Rollins suddenly grabbed Mysterio’s legs and caused a disqualification by throwing him off the apron. Though it did not make sense to viewers, what followed eclipsed this event.

Rollins attacked Mysterio’s eyes and jabbed at them with his fingers, causing Mysterio to cry out in pain. Not being content with that, he gruesomely drove the Lucha Legend’s right eye to the steel steps. These actions had an added shock value because everyone thought Rollins might become a face because of Becky’s pregnancy. It seems the former Shield member had other plans.

A team of Doctors then took Mysterio’s mask off and were treating his eyes. The scene was too brutish and reminiscent of the Ruthless Aggression era. Seth Rollins, in a complete shock, said, “I don’t know what happened out there.” He left after this, following which Murphy and Black engaged in a brawl. Popular notion suggests the brawl might be a set-up for a match between the 2 for Backlash.

Why did Rollins attack Mysterio?

Rey Mysterio has certainly suffered a lot. He got thrown off a building and got his eyes destroyed in less than 24 hours. We might see a feud between these him and Rollins, which will be a treat if they are given the time.

On the other hand, we don’t know what prompted this action by Rollins. But this has brought back attention to the Messiah. The following weeks will be crucial to see what steps the WWE takes. Will they make Rollins more of a heel or will this be a redemption story?
