In the third match of WrestleMania Backlash 2021, The Miz and Damien Priest decided to settle their scores once and for all. Due to earlier arrangements, the match was set to be a lumberjack match.

However, things quickly turned strange. Ahead of the match, Miz’s partner John Morrison briefly discussed how he saw Zombies in the locker room instead of wrestlers.

Although The Miz did not believe him earlier, Morrison was right. Following Miz’s defeat, the Zombies also ‘ate’ Miz and Morrison.

WWE Superstar Batista’s new movie, ‘Army of the Dead,’ is digitally releasing on May 21. In the Zack Snyder-directed Zombie movie, Batista will be playing the main character. The entire Zombie lumberjack angle was a ploy to promote the movie.

Ahead of the PPV, Batista wrote, Wishing good luck to all the WWE Superstars competing tonight at WrestleMania Backlash. Sorry, I couldn’t make it… but some of my friends will.” He followed it up with a hashtag of the movie.

Batista responds to the backlash of The Miz vs Damien Priest fight

While fans are generally accepting of promotions and star appearances, the PPV match was not only unnecessary but also did nothing to affect the story of Priest vs Miz.

A fan complained about why Batista did this to the match. To this, Batista implied it was never his idea, but Vince McMahon‘s. He wrote,Wtf you telling me?!! You think I booked a bunch of fucking zombies. I’m on a damn plane! Shouldn’t you be tweeting Vince?!”

Coming back to the match itself, despite the ‘shock factor’ nothing was new. The idea seemed childish for the audience and was used instead of a good match between The Miz and Priest.

Towards the end of the match, Morrison came back to The Miz to help him. Although he took down some, he got ‘eaten’ at the night. The Miz also suffered a similar fate when Damien performed Hit The Lights on Miz and defeated him.

As his opponents were eaten by zombies, Damien went outside the ring and shot his imaginary arrow to the titantron above. The words “Army of the Dead” came up.
