WWE releasing its employees from their contracts is nothing new. However, not often do fans feel responsible for a talent’s firing. Recently, the Stamford-based company laid off the on-screen commentator Kevin Patrick after his recent stint as main play-by-play. The fanbase believes that it holds the sole responsibility for the firing of the SmackDown commentator.
The commentating talent was laid off by the company today. Although there was a buildup in the company regarding the same, fans still feel like their criticism led to Patrick losing his precious job at the leading wrestling promotion.
Why did WWE fire the commentator?

Kevin Patrick joined WWE in March 2021. In October 2022, the broadcast journalist was promoted to be an announcer on Monday Night Raw. It wasn’t until August 2023 that he was shifted to the blue brand alongside Michael Cole and Corey Graves. The three-man booth will now have one less member in the blue brand.
A few days ago, PW Insider reported that the sentiment in the company is that they are trying to note whether Patrick can handle the booth without Michael Cole ‘steering the ship’. The sources also reported that the commentator could lose his position if he didn’t act as an announcer.
This was probably the reason why WWE ended up deciding that Patrick needed to be released from the position in the blue brand. Although fans who watched him on screen regularly didn’t admire his skills as a commentator, they didn’t want him to get fired.
