On a recent episode of Grilling JR, WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross recalls the one match in John Cena‘s career that pissed him off the most. It was when John Cena faced Kevin Federline in Monday Night Raw back in 2007. However, there is one more reason for which Ross was not happy that night.
Jim Ross stated that he wanted to take a day off on that night to watch his hometown side Oklahoma Sooners take on Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. However, Vince McMahon responded to Jim’s request with an emphatic No. Ross was pissed off to start with and the outcome of the Cena’s match just made him angrier. Ross stated:
“It pi**ed me off, as usual, and I didn’t react well to it. We really had to stretch our creativity on making the match halfway decent. John Cena goes on live, no pretape, no editing, no s–t, with this guy who had no athletic skills, no pro wrestling training and doing it in the main event role on live television. Team player: John Cena.”

Kevin Federline was married to Britney Spears at that time and was fairly common. So John Cena had to take a loss so that WWE could get more audience. Ross continued:

“If I was held back to do a big match, like Cena vs. somebody strong I would’ve looked at it differently but it was a gimmick and Vince really believed we’d get a number. At the end of the day, I probably did okay because I didn’t have to suffer through that loss standing on the sidelines, but the Federline deal was well thought out and well planned. No different than Gronk being at WrestleMania. Has Gronk been a big part of the programming since WrestleMania? He ain’t never going to be an everyday wrestler, is he going to commit like he did football? Unlikely. We never heard from Federline again.”
It was not the only time, a WWE superstar had to take a loss against a Hollywood superstar. Dolph Ziggler had to take a lethal punch when Hugh Jackman was part of RAW. But, you have got to feel bad for Jim Ross too. First, he could not take a day off, and then he had to watch one of his favorite superstars losing to a rapper.
