Dwayne Johnson might hog plenty of spotlights these days, but there was a time when he was relatively unknown outside wrestling circles. His aura and distinguishable charisma have pushed him to one of the biggest action stars that Hollywood has to offer. This type of stardom takes years to muster and Johnson certainly put in the effort. A WWE veteran has recently revealed his first meeting with The Great One.

There are not many who cannot identify the actor today owing to his great reach. Starring in multiple big projects has made Johnson’s face unforgettable for many. And wrestling purists already have a great idea of his ability both in the squared circle and on the mic.

Former WWE referee Charles Robinson has described his first encounter with The People’s Champ. He was speaking during an appearance at the Out of Character podcast.

Robinson opens up on his first day in WWE

The well-known former official said, “Of course, you’re nervous because you don’t know what to expect, but all the referees there, they were fantastic. Whenever someone comes from the outside, you’re really standoffish anyway, but these guys are really good.”

“You had Jack Jones, you had Chad Patton who were fantastic. They actually taped me up and they had one of my fingers. I’m not going to do it on here because I don’t know if I’m allowed to, but it was pointed up and they put a sign on me“.

He continued, “Guess what? The sign said The Rock who? So they taped The Rock who? on my chest and they pushed me in a chair and introduced me to Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson. So that was my introduction to The Rock“.

Robinson was then asked about what Johnson’s response was to this situation. He replied, “I think he {The Rock} said something along the lines of ‘you’re gonna know who I am soon.’ Amazing… He gave me the little eyebrow“.

A unique way to meet Dwayne Johnson

Well, that sure was a unique way to meet The Brahma Bull for the first time. But he definitely stuck to the promise he made to the official back then. After entering the world of the movie in 2001, he never looked back and made an impressionable mark on the whole world. His time in wrestling was something to remember with great feuds with veterans such as Triple H and Stone Cold.

The Great One endured a difficult end to 2022. The change in the DCEU regime meant that a second installment of Black Adam was not pursued. Johnson informed his fans through a social media post last month. The shelving of his dream project no doubt would have hurt him. But the wrestler-turned-actor has plenty of other things to look forward to in 2023.

The XFL’s renewed version is just on the horizon and a return to the ring for The Rock cannot be denied either. Speculations have him facing nephew Roman Reigns in WrestleMania 39 this year in LA. Charles Robinson’s time in the WWE was a fruitful one as he witnessed some of the biggest moments in the promotion’s history. However, even he would not ever forget his first encounter with Dwayne Johnson.
