“The Story of Me Being Difficult” – Shawn Michaels Explains Why He Never Wrestled The Rock in His WWE Career

What do Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock and Shawn Michaels have in common? Well for one, their respective incredible achievements in a WWE ring immediately come into mind. Secondly, the two are among the all-time greats the industry has ever seen. Curiously enough both monumental names in wrestling never squared off in the squared circle.

Fans have often wondered what could have been the reason behind such an anomaly. They have come up with plenty of possible reasons. However, wrestling fanatics recently got the opportunity to learn about the truth straight from the Heartbreak Kid himself.

Shawn Michaels opens up on the feud he never had with Dwayne Johnson

Michaels recently chatted with Daily Mail’s Alex McCarthy. He discussed in length the rivalry with Johnson that never happened. HBK said, ‘Everyone knows the story of me being difficult, having a huge change of heart, and coming back in 2002’. 

‘I was always open to it (a possible feud with Johnson) but it didn’t work out. He became an incredibly busy man and famous guy and everything else and I would imagine his priorities changed quite a bit, and the things he wanted to do I think he did and I respect that.’ added Michaels.

For the unversed, the current NXT creative chief suffered from a horrific back injury in 1998. He had effectively retired from in-ring action until his return in 2002, as a surprise member of WWE’s version of the nWo. By that time, Johnson had already gained success in Hollywood and appeared sparingly on the wrestling juggernaut’s programming.

Both Michaels and The People’s Champ were part of the WWE roster for a considerable amount of time in the 90s. The Stamford-based promotion definitely missed a trick by not pitting two of its biggest stars at the time. But they could have been forced by circumstances outside of their control. There were speculations about Michaels and Johnson not seeing eye to eye backstage.

Michaels appeared in Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast last year where he discussed the matter. The former DX member admitted he was a difficult prospect to handle back in his young days. He also discussed the difficult equation he shared with Johnson in the conversation.

The three-time WWE champion said that it was not as bad as previously thought in many quarters.

The WWE Universe certainly missed out on a possible mouth-watering feud between Shawn Michaels and Dwayne Johnson. But they can find comfort in the fact that they finally get to hear about the matter from one of the involved parties and do not have to scour the web in the quest for the truth.
