2020 has been a forgettable year for everyone except for WWE and wrestling fans. Even though the world shut down because of the pandemic, WWE continued to produce its weekly shows and gave the WWE Universe some memorable matches throughout this year.

Wrestling wise, 2020 was a very fruitful year for the WWE. Every PPV has brought top-notch matches, and it is really difficult to pick the best of this year. That being said, here’s looking at the top five matches of this year.

Men’s Royal Rumble Match (Royal Rumble)

This Royal Rumble match was one of the most exciting in a very, very long time. Not only did we see the rightful winner, but we also saw the return of Edge after 9 long years! The match literally felt like two different matches, one until Brock Lesnar was in it and one after McIntyre eliminated him.

Nostalgia, drama, action  – The match had everything a wrestling fan would want. Hence, this match makes it to our list of top five matches of the year.

AJ Styles vs Daniel Bryan – WWE Intercontinental Championship Match (SmackDown June 12, 2020)

AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan went head to head in the finals of the WWE Intercontinental Championship Tournament earlier this year. What do we even say now? Two of the very best professional wrestlers in the world put on an instant classic that’ll be hard to match.

The clash between the two had everything from false finishes to exceptional counters. Watching these two battle it out like that inside the ring brought back the belief that WWE can put on classics, even on weekly programming! Watch it if you haven’t already!

Sasha Banks vs Bayley – Hell In A Cell Match (WWE Hell In A Cell)

We’ve seen what Sasha Banks and Bayley are capable of in the past, but the reignited rivalry between the former best friends brought some next-level action to our screens at the Hell In A Cell PPV. Sasha Banks won the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship to end Bayley’s title reign at 380 days.

Banks and Bayley are some of the most gifted workers inside the squared circle. It’s certain that any time these two meet, the match is going to be a banger. The match they had at Hell In A Cell this year raised the bar for the quality of matches we know them for.

Ilja Dragunov vs WALTER – NXT UK Championship (NXT UK, Oct 29, 2020)

Well, what do we say? See this classic match to believe your eyes as you read the great praise from our end. This one was one of the most brutal matches that we’ve seen in a long time. Ilja Dragunov brought his complete viciousness and wasn’t backing down from the onslaught of the ‘Ring General.’

Without a doubt, both men left the ring, leaving a part of themselves in the battle. This is a kind of match that one would not expect to see on WWE TV. Thank you NXT UK and Triple H!

Kyle O’Reilly vs Finn Bálor – NXT Championship (NXT TakeOver: 31)

This match marked the arrival of Kyle O’Reilly as a legitimate main eventer. The match was extremely hard-hitting, and both men brought their A-game to the table. For a moment, it also seemed like O’Reilly would walk home with the NXT Championship.

Despite breaking his jaw in the match, Balor gave a top performance. Both men worked extremely well with each other and put on an instant classic that can be watched on loop a thousand times! Such was the great performance that these two men gave.
