

The 2000s was one of the most memorable decades for wrestling fans. The decade saw the rise of a new crop of wrestlers who would go on to dominate WWE for years to come. Babyfaces like John Cena would go on to become fan favorites. While the decade would also see the emergence of many prominent heels.
Among those heels, Randy Orton was surely among the top lot. Starting out as an essential cog in the Evolution faction, Orton would go on to don the Legend Killer persona and later on the heat magnet Viper persona.

The late 2000s would see the advent of the most notorious heel personas of recent times. Orton would go on decimating his opponents to a level very rarely seen in WWE. All the while drawing enormous heat from the fans for his inexplicable actions. The Legend Killer persona had already sprung Orton into a negative character on the roster. His feuds with The Phenom Undertaker and Mick Foley would go on to establish him as one of the top talents in the promotion.
The Viper persona, however, brought on a never before seen side of Randy Orton. He would start using the Punt Kick to decapitate his opponents and put them out of action for good. The rivalries that Orton ensued during this period were all the more interesting as he blurred the lines between kayfabe and reality on several occasions.
The Randy Orton Vs John Cena rivalry
Out of his many feuds, the 2007 rivalry with John Cena still stands out. The Doctor Of Thugaonomics was the face of the company back then and was pitted against the ultimate heel The Viper.

Orton would go on to attack Cena during his matches, setting up a mouth-watering match between the two at the 2007 SummerSlam. The match would be clinched by John Cena, but this wouldn’t be the end of the rivalry. Their feud was made personal by Orton when he attacked Cena’s father in an edition of Monday Night Raw. The moment is still etched in fans’ memory, as it was the most despicable act that Orton had pulled off by then.

Very few superstars adopt the villainous persona as Randy Orton managed back then and continued to do so for years to come. He would go on to have a successful career with the promotion becoming the world champion on 14 occasions.
