“There Was Literally an Article Written About It” – Nikki Bella Expreses Sorrow on Being Hated for All the Wrong Reasons in Wrestling

Being in the public eye constantly has lots of perks. There are some disadvantages too which famous personalities have to go through. The advent of social media has made it easier for fans to regularly mock celebrities. While some take the criticism on their chin, others cannot help but get affected by it. Former WWE superstar and Hall of Famer Nikki Bella has described her ordeal with social media hate.

The company has always had female performers like Chyna, Trish Stratus, and Lita in their ranks. But it was not until the women’s revolution of the 2010s that the ladies finally got their dues. We can credit the Bella twins for bringing a major change in the promotion’s stance on female superstars. In the latest edition of ‘The Bellas Podcast’, Nikki Bella expressed her disappointment at being constantly on the wrong end of the views on the web.

She said, “Even when it comes to the wrestling industry, I’m the most hated person online. There was like, literally an article written about it two weeks ago or something. And It is true, I’m the most hated person in the wrestling industry, and it’s so mind-blowing because I’m probably one of the nicest. But beyond that, I am hated for being so misunderstood“.

“And then it’s weird, If I stick up for the women, I’m hated. If I stick up for myself, I’m hated. The thing that has always been mind-blowing is, I’ve never claimed to be the best wrestler. For some reason, me wrestling and showing passion and love, they hate me for it. It’s like I’m not allowed to be passionate or loved for it.” added the former women’s champion.

It is certainly a curious situation but is not uncommon for some celebrities to always rub the fans the wrong way. They might be unaware of what it is, but that is always the case. And with the famous twins, that has always been the case. The duo, however, has achieved many accomplishments during their time with the promotion. Irrespective of what many say, getting into the WWE Hall of Fame is not a mean feat, particularly at such a young age.

The sisters recently criticized their former employers for not giving priority to the women superstars at RAW XXX. They were quite vocal about it and even went live on Instagram to make their disgruntlement public. It was reported that the former wrestlers were scheduled to appear in the festivities, but backed out of it at the last moment.

Apart from wooing fans with her talents in the ring, Nikki Bella was in a fan-favorite relationship with legend John Cena. The couple even went ahead and got engaged to each other. Cena proposed to Bella in the middle of the ring after getting the better of another power couple The Miz and Maryse at WrestleMania 33. It was admittedly hard parting ways for both parties.

Both Cena and Bella have found love elsewhere since. While the latter took vows with Russian dancer Artem Chigvintsev in 2022. The Doctor of Thuganomics married Shay Shariatzadeh in a simple court wedding back in 2020.

The sister’s role in initiating the women’s revolution cannot be denied. Female superstars such as ‘The Man’ Becky Lynch and SmackDown women’s champion Charlotte Flair are mentioned in the same breath as male performers.

Part of Nicky Bella’s surprise at the criticism thrown at her is understandable, as she has been a crucial part in bringing this important transition. However, it is almost impossible to comprehend what exactly riles up the internet users against her. It would be better only if one remains unaffected by online hate. But it is difficult in the case of Bella, as she admittedly has lost sleep over what is being said about her.
