Who would have imagined that the one who inherits WWE from Vince McMahon after his retirement would be Stephanie McMahon? Being the Billion Dollar Princess, Stephanie learned everything from her dad and is now running the company alongside Triple H and Nick Khan. Her debut in 1999 by involving herself in the middle of the Steve Austin and Vince McMahon storyline would forever bond her with WWE and she has played significant roles in the company over the years.

But as we all know, sometimes mistakes happen, and some mistakes lead to situations that can even scar a person for life. Luckily, that didn’t happen with Vince McMahon’s favorite child, but it came pretty close. Her debut as a sideline reporter for her father’s new American league wasn’t the best idea.

Gewirtz reminisces Stephanie McMahon being a sideline reporter for the XFL

In his book about his time working in WWE, former WWE head writer, Brian Gerwitz wrote, “I was assigned a workplace in one of the production trucks to write the script for Raw, while Michael and Bruce had to take care of the new sideline reporter — Stephanie McMahon.”

“The problem was the audience. Many of whom were sufficiently drunk before they stepped into the stadium, knew Stephanie for one thing — one-half of the evil McMahon- Hemsley regime, terrorizing their favorite babyfaces on Raw and SmackDown.

An earnest Stephanie thrust into the announcer role. Much like her dad was on WWF television decades earlier. Gave her all reporting from the actual stands as a cascade of “s**ts” chants echoed down. This was something that was actually encouraged in this decidedly un-PC era of WWE. But just added to the disaster that was the XFL in 2001.”

“It was just surreal watching a smiling Stephanie McMahon telling the inspirational story on how a player overcame cancer as thousands in unison chanted “s**t” while they high-fived each other.
