WWE icon John Cena is enjoying his transition to Hollywood while making occasional appearances in the WWE arena. Fans are aware that Cena’s wrestling in WWE is a rare occurrence these days. Hence, each of his appearances is utilized carefully. Perhaps similar to Ric Flair’s retirement match in 2008, WWE would like to build upon Cena’s last match. A former Intercontinental champion has thrown in his name in the hats to do the honors while eyeing a WWE return after three years.

It is likely Cena will have a few more matches in the ring before calling time on a legendary career. While it is difficult to see him actually retire from pro wrestling, WWE could give him a more fitting finale with a retirement match.

Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, quickly responded by tweeting “Me.” Fans are speculating that Cardona might be hinting at a potential WWE return through a big feud against 16-time WWE Champion John Cena. On the other hand, there are rumors of Cena retiring from the world of pro wrestling.

Cena’s last few appearances in the WWE have been sporadic and mostly used to elevate talents or storylines. His last major feud was against Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39 followed by a segment with Grayson Waller.

Meanwhile, Matt Cardona had earlier shown interest in returning to WWE following his meteoric rise in the independent circuit. After he left WWE in 2020, he made a name for himself on the independent wrestling scene. Going with the Indie God gimmick, he is redefining wrestling in the circuit by winning major titles in Warrior Wrestling, House of Glory, One Pro Wrestling, and indie staple GCW promotions.

While speaking to James Stewart on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Stick to Wrestling podcast, Cardona revealed that he is interested in being involved with WWE in any way possible. He even suggested helping his wife defend her tag team title on RAW.

Cardona has more ideas for his WWE return

Cardona suggested an ingenious way to become a part of the WWE storyline by leveraging upon his free agent status. He said “I don’t know the deal [on free agent rules] with that. I mean, I am a free agent. I am the agent, so if WWE needs me on Monday Night Raw, uh… to help Chelsea with those titles I’m available.

In order to elevate his claims further, he made his entrance wearing a replica of the WWE Women’s tag team championship against Tetsuya Endo in Tokyo, Japan for the DDT Universal Championship. The belt was won by his wife and reigning WWE Women’s tag team champion Chelsea Green.
