In the recent Q2 2020 Earnings Call, WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon talked about the fact that AEW and NXT have been able to maintain ratings during the pandemic. The two brands have been able to score better than RAW and SmackDown, which have suffered acute declines in viewership.
On Twitter, Ryan Satin updates us on Vince McMahon’s reply and his thoughts on the subject. You can see the same in the tweets shared below.
During the Q&A portion of WWE's Q2 earnings call, Vince McMahon was asked about ratings being soft lately and what can be done to change them. McMahon points to the audience being integral to WWE, but says they can have better storylines/new characters/more non-wrestling content.

The absence of the crowd has created a deep, dark void for WWE. The storylines just aren’t the same without the “What?!” chants, the cheers, and the roars. The creative team is having a hard time creating interesting stories to attract viewers.
Vince McMahon apparently has a lot of ideas in mind and will prioritize better segments.
To clarify that last line (cause I ran out of room), he basically said more content that takes place outside of the ring. I'm assuming they meant stuff like the Street Profits/Viking Raiders sports battles.

Segments are key to WWE. Back in the Attitude Era, masterpiece back-to-back segments from The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin literally made WWE world famous. In simpler terms, if the segment is sub-par, few will want to see the match.
Vince McMahon will focus on ‘outside the ring’ content
Soon, the main question came into the light. RAW and SmackDown have been biting the dust in ratings over the past few months.
RAW especially has seen a drop of over a million of its viewers compared to last year.
On the other side of the page, AEW and NXT have been more or less working as usual. The pandemic hasn’t affected their ratings as much. Vince McMahon shares his thoughts on this as well.
"Why do you think AEW and NXT have bounced back better from the initial COVID shock than Raw and SmackDown?"
Vince basically says they are new and that WWE needs to make Raw/SmackDown feel more new as well to help with things.

A breath of fresh air for RAW would be welcome. In another interview earlier this week, Vince McMahon said that RAW would be building up new talent in order to create better storylines.
They will accomplish this through massive technological promotions.

New Superstars are needed because Seth Rollins and Randy Orton cannot carry the brand alone anymore. The absence of Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar has proved pivotal to the decline in RAW ratings.

Later, Satin also shared a short voice recording of McMahon during the interview. Vince seemed overwhelmed by the big questions thrown at him all at once.

We will definitely see a few creative changes in RAW over the course of the next few weeks. WWE may bring over a few superstars from NXT to give new life to RAW. Whatever they plan, they have to do it fast.
