Vince McMahon’s Confidence in a Young John Cena Created Legitimate Heat Between the Cenation Leader and Cody Rhodes’ Former Tag Team Partner: ‘I Hate That Motherf***er’

The world of sports entertainment is highly competitive in itself. When we look into the pro wrestling industry, some stars envy one another due to their different career directions. An ex-WWE star, René Duprée, revealed one such story from the past where a veteran felt jealous of John Cena. 

It’s no secret that Cena has been fans’ favorite and one of the biggest superstars of the promotion. However, success didn’t come easy to him. He dealt with his share of troubles but also managed to stand out and make his own identity. In this journey of young Cena, the confidence of Vince McMahon in him acted as the prominent support. Thus, it turned led to other wrestlers feeling bitter about Cena.

Former WWE star reveals a backstage story of jealousy involving John Cena

Speaking on his podcast Café De René, Rene Dupree recalled an incident that happened on WWE Judgement Day PPV, years ago. He went on to narrate the anecdote where a former WWE star, Bob Holly showed his discontent with Cena’s success.

Duprée recalled, “So, we’re in the locker room after the match and Cena passes by and Bob was like, ‘I hate that motherf**ker.’ Why do you think he hated him? Because he knew he was getting the push that was the new guy. He was jealous, you get it.”

The former tag-team partner of Cody Rhodes was known for his notorious backstage hazing. However, his feeling of bitterness toward Cena seemed strange. His jealousy also came because of the opportunities that The Champ was largely seen as Vince McMahon’s new favorite.

“We would ride together and he would yell at me, ‘Why [are] you making Cena look good? Why are you giving him so much?’ He would yell at me because he knew that that was Vince’s [McMahon] new guy,” René Duprée added. 

Even though Duprée labeled Hardcore Holly as ‘miserable’ and recalled an incident supporting it, this wasn’t the only time he gave a wrestler, the tag of ‘jealous’ Previously also, he narrated a similar story of Triple H. 

Triple H felt the same for The Champ like Hardcore Holly

The Canadian wrestler has used his podcast to reveal several spicy backstage stories. One of those was about Triple when he was also jealous of Cena. Duprée also mentioned that The King of the Kings didn’t like ‘The Cenation Leader’ at all. 

Cena was the new emerging face of WWE and was set to replace the old guard as such some of the jealousy against him was obvious. However, this didn’t affect his career in any way as he had the backing of Vince McMahon himself and he rose to the top.

But one cannot deny that such backstage stories are fascinating to listen to.
