There has been a lot going on in WWE lately. The promotion drew the ire of the wrestling faithful, especially since the WrestleMania drama started. In case you missed it, Cody Rhodes has announced that he would move aside so that Dwayne Johnson could take his WrestleMania 40 spot. This had made fans enraged as they believe Rhodes deserves the spot. However, before fans were discussing this, there was another topic everyone was talking about: Vince McMahon’s resignation. Days after the news broke out, we have some updates as to who advised him to do so.

Who told Vince McMahon to resign?

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, it was not someone from WWE who suggested that he resign. In fact, it was Endeavor’s CEO Ari Emanuel and TKO’s COO Mark Shapiro who told him that it would be better if he resigned from the company. This advice was issued to him amidst several allegations and a lawsuit that McMahon was facing.

The conversation between the three happened on the evening of January 26, 2024, and McMahon quickly agreed to the decision. It was later revealed by the President of WWE, Nick Khan, that McMahon would be cutting all ties with WWE a few minutes before the 01/26 episode of SmackDown aired.

The news came out just a few days after WWE struck a deal with streaming giant Netflix. Apart from that, TKO Group had brought in former WWE superstar and Hollywood icon, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on board as one of the Board of Directors. With this, WWE has ensured that they are set to enter a new dawn in their history. Sans Vince McMahon.

However, McMahon’s hold on the affairs of WWE was already waning as his loyal right-hand man decided to leave the company just a few days before his resignation.

Vince McMahon’s loyal companion exits WWE

While the Bossman left the company on January 26, his loyal companion and friend, Kevin Dunn, left the company on January 1, 2024. Nick Khan had sent out a memo to the staff of WWE that Dunn would be departing from the company. Dunn was one of the few people who have worked with WWE since the beginning. It is said that he was the pioneer behind the first WrestleMania, which was held in 1985.

While there is no word about the exact reason he left, speculation suggests that the change in power dynamics at WWE forced his hand. Dunn has worked with WWE for almost four decades and the only person he was ever accountable to was Vince McMahon. However, since the TKO takeover, McMahon’s power at the company started to fade. This might have prompted Dunn to leave WWE. What do you think of this change in power at WWE? Let us know in the comments below.

One take at a time

For me pro wrestling has two things that I like the most, storytelling and fighting. Let?s just say movies are failing to keep me entertained in those departments. I grew up watching WWF and not WWE and any hardcore fan will agree that the two are not the same, but I love both iterations.
