In the latest edition of Friday Night SmackDown, one of the most talked-about moments in recent years in WWE took place. Cody Rhodes had a face-to-face with Roman Reigns after winning the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble for the second year in a row. When it seemed like he was going to choose Reigns as his opponent at WrestleMania 40, ‘The American Nightmare’ decided against it and introduced Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as a better opponent for Reigns instead. Then Rhodes left the ring, and with it, the chances of him being the undisputed world champion went out as well. The Rock had a face-to-face with the Tribal Chief, hinting that the match between the two would happen at WrestleMania 40. However, the marquee matchup hasn’t generated the hype WWE thought it would. In fact, the bout has caused some criticism among the wrestling faithful.

This segment has caused a wave of reactions in both real life and in social media. A vast majority of the WWE Universe is against what happened because a good part of the fans wanted to see Cody Rhodes “finish his story” at WrestleMania this year, but right now the situation points to that, again, it will not be like that. So at a house show in Knoxville, they decide to hijack the show with chants of disapproval.

What seemed like a moment of jubilation by fans when they saw “The Great One” arrive in the ring after the conclusion of the show turned into anger and complaints towards Triple H and WWE for how Cody Rhodes had to “momentarily give up” to complete his story. And while many complained about it on social media, Knoxville fans decided that the WWE needed to know that they were getting booed now as they played the infamous segment in a house show.

Well, the fan backlash was fairly evident on YouTube as well, as fans stormed the comment section of the recently uploaded clip of the segment by WWE’s YouTube channel. In fact, WrestleOps posted on their Twitter account that WWE’s recent video has the most dislikes in the company’s history. With more than two million views and more than 200,000 dislikes in nine hours, that is four times more than the number of positive reactions to the video.

On the contrary, Cody Rhodes is getting all the support from fans, as his recent appearance at WWE Knoxville saw the WWE superstar receive the loudest pop in the show as he made his way to the ring. So it is evident for the WWE to see who the crowd actually wants to see stand across Roman Reigns. Are you with the crowd as well and believe it should’ve been Rhodes and not the Rock?
