The Undertaker has spent 30 years with the WWE since he debuted at Survivor Series in 1990. However, The Undertaker started his wrestling career in 1987, which means he shared roughly three years with a non-Undertaker gimmick. Even though The Undertaker made his name with Vince McMahon’s WWE, he started his wrestling career with a rival company.
Before becoming a legend as The Undertaker in the WWE, Mark Calway once wrestled for WCW as Mean Mark Callous. Mark Calaway, aka The Undertaker, was 21-year-old when he was brought to the WCW roster.

It portrayed mean Mark Callous as a quiet but sinister villain. Of course, we all know The Phenom in his deadly black attire, but there was a time when he wrestled in trunks.
Was Mean Mark Callous as deadly as The Undertaker in his trunks?
A resurfaced video from the 1989s shows The Undertaker appeared in the squared circle in his wrestling trunks. This is an unusual sight for wrestling fans because, later, when he joined the WWE, fans never saw him in his wrestling trunk attire. But, as scary as we know Taker in his all-black wrestling gear, he had the same wrestling moves in his trunks.

WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker, during his WCW days, once wrestled against John Laurinaitis. Mean Mark Callous hard punched Johnny Ace to perform the big elbow. Later, Mark Callous went to the top rope and dropped a massive elbow right across the chest of Johnny Ace to grab the victory.

Taker’s infamous ‘Tombstone’ maneuver was to put his opponents to rest in peace. But, before that, Mean Mark Callous in WCW used to perform a big elbow from the top rope.

During that time, Mark Callous’s big elbow was a vicious finisher because he was a 6 ft. 9-inch giant who used to drop his elbow on his opponents from the top rope. The Undertaker looked like he had launched himself like a missile across the hearts of the opponents.
How did The Phenom take a gigantic leap from the WCW to WWE?
Taker was almost a giant in the ring who was quick on his feet and relatively agile. In his WCW stint, Mean Mark Callous was managed by Paul E. Dangerously, aka Paul Heyman. In the early wrestling days of Mark Calaway, Paul Heyman played a significant role by standing tall for him.

Notably, Mean Mark Callous had a short stint with the WCW because a few wrestling promoters told him that nobody would pay money to watch him. Taker did not impress even The Big Man, aka Vince McMahon, in his trunk. But Paul Heyman and Jim Ross were rigid that Mr. McMahon should try out Calaway once.
When Vince McMahon agreed to give the opportunity to Mark Calway, he packed his bag from the WCW. This marked the end of Mean Mark Callous appearing in his trunks and adapting the brand new Undertaker moniker. Once Mark was given a proper character by Mr. McMahon, he rose to superstardom.
