Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has wrestled Steve Austin at the Grandest Stage of them All in a trilogy. In addition, these two men also closed the main event at WrestleMania 15 and 17.
A rivalry that went on for almost five years had another shocking incident. The Rock in 1999 got away with the attempted murder of Stone Cold Steve Austin. This year it marked the 23rd anniversary of the incident.

What was The Rock doing at a bridge in Detroit?
The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin were set to face each other at the inaugural Backlash 1999 for the WWE Championship. However, before their battle on the 12th of April, 1999 episode of Raw, The Rock stole Austin’s WWE Championship belt. And The Great One took the WWE title to a bridge in Detroit.
“Well, h**l, I guess according to The Rock’s Rolex, it’s taking a long time for that piece of trash to come. The Rock couldn’t really help. So what he’s going to do is go on and throw this Stone Cold belt,” Dwayne Johnson said during the promo.

The Brahma Bull was waiting for Steve Austin to arrive. When Johnson was about to throw Austin’s WWE title into a river, Stone Cold appeared in a black van to humble The Rock.

The Texas Rattlesnake was furious when he arrived at the bridge and fired vicious fists at Johnson’s face. However, Stone Cold Steve Austin’s rage backfired on him when The Rock reversed Austin’s fist attacks with a fishing rod. Not only this but, The Brahma Bull grabbed Steve Austin and put him by the edge of the bride.
“F**k yourself, you piece of s**t. Go to h**l,” The Rock said and threw Austin into a river off the bridge.
Johnson added, “Austin, you want your belt? Here it is, and you take it to h**l with you!”

It shocked the WWE Universe when The Great One pushed Stone Cold Steve Austin into the river. However, this was all a part of the WWE storyline because they wanted to create an epic rivalry between the two.
The Texas Rattlesnake got his revenge back on The Rock at Backlash 1999. Steve Austin successfully won the WWE Championship over Johnson with an ultimate “Stone Cold” stunner.
