WATCH: When John Cena Won Hearts with a Classy Response on his Breakup with Nikki Bella

The “it” couple of WWE at one point was John Cena and Nikki Bella. The two of them had one of the most public relationships that the industry had witnessed.

Furthermore, that moment when Cena proposed to Bella at WrestleMania 33 is a moment that the audience continues to remember.

The couple were due to tie the knot in April 2018 when Nikki Bella broke it off three weeks prior to the set date. Of course, it was extremely heart-breaking for John Cena.

John Cena reveals his heartbreak following split with Nikki Bella

In fact, the WWE Superstar had poured his heart out about his feelings post the engagement falling apart during 2018 while he was talking to Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on TODAY.

One of the first things he pressed upon was his feelings for Nikki Bella following his heartbreak.

“I had my heart broken out of nowhere or for me, it was out of nowhere. Anyone who has experienced that knows it comes with a series of bad feelings.

“I still love Nicole, I still would like to marry Nicole, I still would like to have a family with Nicole.” 

The WWE Superstar just wanted to live his daily life

He went through a rather tough time after the unfortunate incident. While he tried his best to live his daily life, he clarified how it had nothing to do with him enjoying the “single life”.

“There has been a lot of speculation recently about me being seen in public. Everyone’s thinking like ‘oh John Cena is enjoying the single life’. No, I was supposed to be married and have a honeymoon over these two weeks. This is the first time in 15 years since I have taken a vacation. I am in my house alone surrounded by these emotionally strong memories and everyday from 6 to 9 I get out of the house and talk to strangers as social interaction.”

Even when his heart was breaking, Cena took an active interest in supporting Nikki Bella to find herself and her route. Yes, he did have the hopes of getting back together with her but he did not want to come across as the selfish individual he was towards the beginning of the relationship.

“If you look at me five years ago, stubborn, selfish, self-focused, life had always been about me. And slowly over time this woman walks in and steals my heart. And whether I want to realize it or not, she becomes my number one.”

In this instance he was referring to the time when he did not want to have children. However, he was willing to go back on this for Nikki Bella.

Unfortunately, the two of them did not get back together. Fortunately, John Cena did move on from this experience and is currently in a relationship with Shay Shariatzadeh.
