A week has passed since Cody Rhodes lived his dream night at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, wearing his dream Undisputed Universal WWE Championship belt with utmost pride. Even before the WWE Universe was done with the celebration, ‘The American Nightmare’ stepped on to defend his title. Tonight, from Birmingham, the 38-year-old put his coveted title on the line for the very first time. Appearing against the sinister star, Shinsuke Nakamura, he even came out victorious. The card also featured several other marquee matches, building up an exaggerated Wednesday night.

WWE set out for a jam-packed England tour from Birmingham. A hard-hitting Intercontinental Championship match between Sami Zayn, Gunther, Finn Bálor, and Chad Gable set the tone for the rest of the night. The newly crowned champion toppled the two men and the Ring General with zero mercy for the second time in a row. This fatal four-way match went down to vacate the ring space for a women’s tag team match between Natalya, Tegan Fox, and Zoey Stark, Shayna Baszler. After a tense fight, the unified power of Natalya and Stark triumphed over Stark and Baszler.

A single grudge match between Jey Uso and Drew McIntyre followed, where the result went in favor of Reigns’ abandoned cousin. As the crowd screaming in the arena made the Scottish Warrior even more furious, they probably sowed the seed of something more intense.

Looking at the other fights, Damian Priest nailed his first-ever World Heavyweight Champion title defense, knocking down Kofi Kingston in a jaw-dropping course of events. Ricochet managed to get away with a victory over J.D. McDonagh. On the other hand, Becky Lynch ruined Piper Nivan in her first post-WrestleMania match and got a huge ego boost. ‘The Man’ utilized her iconic finisher, Disarm-her, on Nivan, allowing herself to claim a submission victory.
Cody Rhodes’ bravery made the cynosure of Wednesday night in Birmingham
Coming fresh from his fairytale story-finished segment, ‘The American Nightmare’ kept up his heroics, headlining the live event like a true champ. At the closing hour of the show, the former stardust put old rival Shinsuke Nakamura on his level with a solid main-event win. Previously, the duo met in an episode of WWE Raw in February, where Nakamura got kicked out by Rhodes’ fatal ‘Cross Rhodes’ in a Bull Rope match.
