There aren’t a lot of superstars in the history of the industry who have been more beloved, more iconic, and era-defining than Randy Savage.

Even to this day, the WWE reaps the benefits of the standards of selling storyline as Savage did back in the late 80s and the early 90s. Aside from Hulk Hogan, there’s arguably no one from that period who managed to capture the hearts of the fans like Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage did.

However, Savage’s gimmick was not just anything that he performed between the ropes. The former Intercontinental champion lived like this in real life. He passed away in a car accident in 2011.

When the news of Randy’s passing away aired, it seemed almost not true, as fans were left stunned and didn’t want to believe that a man who entertained millions around the globe had left the earth so soon. Eventually, the wrestling world mourned his death where various Savage’s peers came out and expressed their love to their deceased friend.

The pro-wrestling industry never got a superstar like Randy Savage who was so over with the crowd that they couldn’t just boo him.

His iconic spot with a Cobra

Back in the 90s, Savage was feuding with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts and the reason Jake was famous was that he brought real cobras in the ring and would threaten wrestlers and the audience.

In a 1991 episode of WWF Superstars of Wrestling, Jake Roberts verbally provoked Randy Savage, calling out his manhood and saying he was “a gutless yellow stinkin’ coward.”

Savage eventually came out to address Roberts for his remarks. However, when met in the ring, Roberts got the better of Savage and tangled the former WWE champion in the ropes and Roberts introduced a cobra into the equation.
