Some fans showed no surprise as the return was rumored after the shocking retirement of Vince McMahon. William Regal is quite close to chief content officer Triple H.
While working together, both had a similar vision for the company, which was dismantled by the former CEO. And after Vince’s retirement and Levesque taking back control, William Regal’s return was a sure shot.
Regal had worked with WWE in front and behind the camera for over two decades. His journey in the professional wrestling world was full of twists and turns.
He started his career at the very young age of 15 years. In 2000, Regal joined WWF and earned the pride of becoming two times intercontinental champion, five-time hardcore champion, four-time world tag team, and European champion.

After signing off as a professional wrestler, Matthews (William Regal) started to serve WWE, behind the camera. With the evolution of NXT into a development brand of World Wrestling Entertainment in 2014, Regal came forward as the off-screen general manager of NXT.
When Triple H made him Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting, he took it very seriously. He started traveling to see major independent wrestling events to handpick the talent for the company. But this black and gold vision of Triple H was soon enough shattered by Vince McMahon.

William Regal’s return and future expectations
In March 2022, William Regal made his AEW (All Elite Wrestling) debut. Further, he served AEW as the manager of Moxley and Danielson.
But a few months later, the AEW President and CEO confirmed that Regal asked not to renew his contract with AEW. He said that William wanted to return to WWE and work with his son Charlie Dempsey (who appears on NXT).
However, this huge reaction by WWE fans is obvious as William Regal has served the company for more than two decades, giving fans what they desire.
