A former WWE superstar and NXT general manager, is returning to WWE, confirming the rumors, almost a year after his “ridiculous release”.

Tony Khan, the president of AEW, already gave hints last month that the former WWE superstar and NXT general manager, William Regal, is returning to WWE, after the confirmation of his release from AEW. And now, his return to WWE is official.

According to the report of PWInsider.com, William Regal is officially back. He will be taking care of the non-televised vice president’s role in the company. 

This confirmation has filled WWE fans with enthusiasm and joy, and fans are showing their excitement on Twitter.

Fans react to Regal return news

Many fans strongly believe that WWE is the place where Regal belongs and that releasing him was a ridiculous decision; while others were just happy to see their favorite legend returning.

Moreover, another user expressed his joy and then demanded to change his son’s name who is currently in the brand NXT.

Another user, on the other hand, wasn’t happy with his release, calling it a “ridiculous release”.

However, a fan was worried if Vince returns, he will release Regal again.

Some fans showed no surprise as the return was rumored after the shocking retirement of Vince McMahon. William Regal is quite close to chief content officer Triple H.

While working together, both had a similar vision for the company, which was dismantled by the former CEO. And after Vince’s retirement and Levesque taking back control, William Regal’s return was a sure shot.

Regal had worked with WWE in front and behind the camera for over two decades. His journey in the professional wrestling world was full of twists and turns.

He started his career at the very young age of 15 years. In 2000, Regal joined WWF and earned the pride of becoming two times intercontinental champion, five-time hardcore champion, four-time world tag team, and European champion.

After signing off as a professional wrestler, Matthews (William Regal) started to serve WWE, behind the camera. With the evolution of NXT into a development brand of World Wrestling Entertainment in 2014, Regal came forward as the off-screen general manager of NXT.

When Triple H made him Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting, he took it very seriously. He started traveling to see major independent wrestling events to handpick the talent for the company. But this black and gold vision of Triple H was soon enough shattered by Vince McMahon

William Regal’s return and future expectations

In March 2022, William Regal made his AEW (All Elite Wrestling) debut. Further, he served AEW as the manager of Moxley and Danielson.

But a few months later, the AEW President and CEO confirmed that Regal asked not to renew his contract with AEW. He said that William wanted to return to WWE and work with his son Charlie Dempsey (who appears on NXT). 

However, this huge reaction by WWE fans is obvious as William Regal has served the company for more than two decades, giving fans what they desire.

And now, with his return, they must be curious to see how the company proceeds. Will Regal and Triple H continue fulfilling their vision from where they left off? Or do they have an entirely new plan for WWE?
