The WNBA star Brittney Griner has been in the headlines for being convicted in Russia in February. Griner was one of the most famous and talented basketball players to ever come out of the USA. She was under the radar of multiple WNBA teams while she was playing college football for Baylor Bears.

However, during her astonishing career, there were not only basketball scouts who were keeping an eye on her. The Baylor alumni impressed a wrestling legend who signed Brock Lesnar in WWE. The legend once called Griner a big-money star for WWE.

The WWE legend is none other than Jim Ross, who, along with Gerald Brisco, signed Brock Lesnar. A few years ago, he tweeted about Brittney Griner while watching the game between Baylor Bears and Oklahoma Sooners in January 2012.

Ross wrote, “OU women down 15 @ half vs #1 Baylor. Sooners playing scared & Bears coach working the refs. 6’8″ Britney Griner=Big WWE $$”.

Since WWE has a history of signing taller and stronger athletes from the NCAA, Ross saw a huge potential in Griner because of her 6’8” ft height and her weight of 205lbs.

The current AEW commentator thought an athlete like her would bring tremendous money to WWE. Moreover, the two-time Olympic Champion would have instantly captured the eyes of the WWE Universe towards the women’s division of WWE at the time.

JR was the EVP of Talent Relations for a brief period in WWE, and hired many top names for the company. The most popular one was certainly Brock Lesnar. If Ross tweeted Griner was money, it’s safe to say he knew she had that ‘It’ factor to become a popular WWE superstar if she had chosen an alternative career.

Baylor Bears won the match that Jim Ross shared in his tweet by 85-58. Griner scored 18 points in that match.
