The Wednesday Night Wars between NXT and AEW has given wrestling fans a ton of special shows this year. And that’s not the end of it! The Holiday season is here and so are the special episodes from both rival shows.

The black and gold brand is bringing the NXT New Year’s Evil Special on 6th January, the same date as AEW’s New Year’s Smash Night 2. With only three weeks to go for the television special, here’s looking at how the card could shape for the event.

NXT Championship will be on the line!

NXT would definitely want their first show of 2021 to be a banger and probably beat AEW Dynamite in ratings. So far, the way things are shaping up, there are a handful of matches that can happen on the show. Two of them have been announced already!

Last night on NXT, Kyle O’Reilly defeated Pete Dunne in a thrilling contest to become the #1 Contender for Finn Balor’s NXT Championship. The last time O’Reilly and Balor met, they put on a classic at NXT TakeOver: 31 and this time will be no different either!

Another match that was added to the card was Damian Priest vs the returning Karrion Kross. Kross made quick work of Desmond Troy in his in-ring return last night and hinted that Priest’s time was up.

Doomsday has legitimately arrived for Damian Priest. The comments Priest made to Scarlett last week did not sit well with Kross. And then we all know what happened. So far, WWE has announced only two matches for the show, but we expect three more matches at least.

Matches that could happen

The tag team division seems to have reignited in NXT. Breezango returned this week and laid out the NXT Tag Team Champions. Killian Dain and Drake Maverick are in the picture too! A multi-man tag team match to determine the #1 contender for the NXT Tag Team titles would be an impressive addition to the card.

Also, Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa are not done yet. We saw Ciampa and Thatcher continue their feud. Hence, it is a possibility that we could see these two take each other on again with Thatcher walking out victorious.

A couple of other matches that we could also see are Kushida vs Johnny Gargano and Raquel Gonzalez vs Rhea Ripley. Kushida’s push is just beginning, and he seems like next in line for the North American Championship.

Raquel Gonzalez cost Rhea Ripley her match against Toni Storm last night. This will surely not sit well with the ‘Nightmare’ and she would love to get the better of Raquel Gonzalez once more.

The only catch is Gonzalez has upped her game big time since that loss to Rhea Ripley. We saw how she bounced back after that as she pinned Io Shirai in WarGames.

So, it won’t be a simple task for Ripley. In my opinion, Gonzalez will avenge her first loss and challenge Io Shirai for the title.

The card is shaping up excellently for NXT New Year’s Evil, and with the way things are going, we’re sure it’s going to be one hell of a show! What matches do you think will happen? Let us know in the comments.
