The WWE Slammy Awards were announced for the 23rd of December. Nominees for the annual awards were also announced on the WWE website. With the unusual circumstances of the year 2020, every WWE superstar deserves an award. However, these incredible talents generated the most special moments in 2020.

WWE Champion and Royal Rumble winner Drew McIntyre is the favourite to pick up this award. Along with him, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, former WWE Champion Randy Orton, SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks and Raw Women’s Champion Asuka are also nominated. Names like Braun Strowman, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bray Wyatt and Bayley round off the list.

2020 saw some truly brilliant matches, from Undertaker vs AJ Styles at WrestleMania, to Drew McIntyre vs Roman Reigns at Survivor Series. Also nominated- Sasha Banks vs Bayley (HIAC), Edge vs Randy Orton (Backlash), AJ Styles vs Daniel Bryan (SmackDown), Becky Lynch vs Asuka (Royal Rumble) and the Men’s Royal Rumble match.
Rivalry of the Year
Edge vs Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre vs Randy Orton, Sasha Banks vs Bayley and Seth Rollins vs the Mysterio family are the top picks for this category. WWE also added R-Truth vs the World and Lana vs the Announcer Tables as the final two comedic nominees in this category.
Tag Team of the Year
Tag team wrestling has not had the best year due to the release of teams like the Revival and AOP. However, the women’s tag team division saw a revival with The Golden Role Models, and Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. The New Day and the Street Profits seem to be the favourites to win the award, but Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro might upset a few with a shock win.
Return of the Year

Several WWE superstars made some truly unexpected and shocking returns to the ring. While Roman Reigns, MVP, Goldberg and Sami Zayn made triumphant returns, none of them come close to the Rated-R return at the Rumble. Edge’s return is the favourite to pick up this award.

The other categories announced include: Ring Gear of the Year, Breakout Star of the Year, Male and Female Superstar of the Year, and the Moment of the Year.
