Bobby Lashley faced many issues trying to be a full-time MMA fighter. One of them was his desire to stay in pro-wrestling.
Per ‘The Almighty’ Bellator gave him a much more flexible schedule where he could also pursue pro-wrestling besides MMA, but the UFC deal wasn’t very flexible.
He appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani and said, “Dana seems fair, he said. You know we can’t offer him a huge contract, but we can give him something that he can get his foot in the door and prove himself…Dan was like, but they want you to sign everything. There’s no more pro wrestling… You can’t offer me a contract and say, yeah, we’ll bring him in, but he needs to shut all that down with small money.”

‘The Almighty’ continued, “Everything was left up in the air for me with Coker, and I wish I could have did that with Dana, but I understand that you can’t do that in the UFC. He’s not gonna let anybody have that part-time, do-whatever-you-want kind of contract and that’s what I needed and that’s what he wasn’t willing to give.”

When it came down to a decision, Lashley expressed it would make much more financial sense to go back to pro wrestling. He saw more opportunity for growth in wrestling with his already established name.
