The Miz made WWE history by winning the WWE Championship at the Elimination Chamber. Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase in shocking fashion, pinning Drew McIntyre to win his second WWE Championship. He currently stands fifth in the list of wrestlers with the biggest gaps between title reigns.
Miz won his first WWE Championship in 2011. On November 22nd, 2010, Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Randy Orton, the WWE Champion. Orton had just defended the title against Wade Barrett, and the Nexus had left the Viper wounded.
Once Orton RKO’d Barrett into the mid-card, the Miz sprinted to the ring with his MITB briefcase. The wounded Viper lay defenceless against the opportunistic challenger. Miz attacked Orton’s legs, but the Viper fought back and almost put him away with the RKO, but the challenger countered with the Skull Crushing Finale. 1, 2, 3, and we had a new champion.
A similar instance occurred after 3,744 days. Miz cashed in his MITB contract after the brutal WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match.
Drew McIntyre defended the title against five former World Champions, only for Bobby Lashley to take him out after the match. Once Lashley’s attack ended, Miz sprinted to the ring and hit McIntyre with the kneeling DDT for a nearfall. He then ended McIntyre’s title reign with a Skull Crushing Finale.
Along with achieving the aforementioned milestone, The Miz achieved several other incredible milestones.
With the cash in on Drew McIntyre, he became the third superstar to cash in the Money in the Bank twice in his career, after Edge and CM Punk. He’s the only superstar to cash in the Money in the Bank contract for the WWE Championship twice. Punk challenged for the World Heavyweight Championship twice, while Edge went for the WWE and World Heavyweight Championship.
With his win at the Elimination Chamber, Miz became the only two-time Grand Slam Champion in WWE history. With eight Intercontinental Championship reigns, two United States Championship reigns, two WWE Championship reigns and seven Tag Team Championship reigns, he is the sole superstar who can be called a two-time Grand Slam Champion.
