The Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes rivalry is heating up nicely. The WWE has done a stellar job at building up the feud for the WrestleMania 39 main event. When the champion is not around the ever-present, Paul Heyman does a more than able job to take pot-shots at the challenger. And when Reigns and Rhodes do come face to face, they hit it out of the park every time.

That was the case when the two came face to face in the latest edition of Monday Night Raw. While both gave an excellent account of themselves, it was The Tribal Chief who looked to have come out on top in the verbal battle. Every word coming out of his mouth was hard-hitting for Rhodes.

During the engaging segment that had many moments, Reigns made a reference to The Second Generation superstar’s AEW career. He said, “You didn’t want to do the Stardust thing, so you ran away. Then you started a company that you couldn’t get over in and you ran away” It’s fair to say The Bloodline leader did not hold back.

The Head of The Table spewed verbal venom in his trademark style. And the coming together of both competitors will go a long way in building intrigue for their upcoming clash. It’s hard to imagine both Reigns and The American Nightmare have had only two promos together. Their other interaction at the March 3rd edition of SmackDown got quite personal.

Reigns mentioned Rhodes’ legendary father in a previous verbal battle

The former Shield member did not mince his words on that occasion, either. Bringing in the legendary father of his opponent into the conversation. For the unversed, Dusty Rhodes played a major part in Reigns’s development in his initial days in wrestling. He said, “I’ve been groomed not only by my father but your father too”. The champion’s entourage has left no stone unturned in making the feud a personal one.

The onus is now on Rhodes as to how he responds to all these digs in the squared circle come this April 2nd.

Roman Reigns has fought and presided over many contenders for his throne. However, the threat of Cody Rhodes seems like a pretty unique prospect. It has forced Reigns to bring out his A-game on the mic. And boy, he has delivered absolute gold while at it!
