Punk claimed Austin would simply exist in the current era of wrestling and not be successful. Moreover, he claimed he would be at the top of the food chain in the Attitude Era as well.
Austin believed that he’d thrive in the current era, amongst superstars like John Cena, Randy Orton, Sheamus and of course, CM Punk. He also thought that Punk would do well in the Attitude Era. JR then lobbied the most exciting question: Who would win a match between Punk and Austin?
I see. @CMPunk You did say that. Damn.
Complete delusion. I had us at a 60 minute time limit match at the Rosemont Horizon. Right there in Chicago. Chi Town. The Windy City. Helluva match.
Caught you with a Stunner at 59:56. You did not kick out.

On Twitter, a fan reminded Punk about the interview and JR’s question. Punk responded to the fan saying, “Would’ve been short. GTS, 1 2 3.” Austin fired back at Punk with a contrasting image.

The scenarios laid out by both men are entirely possible. Punk can pull off a shock upset against Austin quickly, while Austin can take Punk to hell and back, wrestling for nearly an hour before being put away by a stunner.
A likely scenario is Punk and Austin putting on a brilliant thirty-minute brawl, a perfect fusion of technical wrestling and brawling. The clash of styles would lead to the perfect match, harkening back to Austin’s wars with Bret Hart.

CM Punk vs Stone Cold Steve Austin would be very similar to Bret vs Austin, which is one of the best matches of all time. I’m sure if we got Punk vs Austin, it would’ve surpassed Austin vs Hart.
