Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton are two of the most popular superstars in WWE at the moment. The ‘Beast Incarnate’ and ‘The Viper’ have proved themselves almost every time they stepped inside the squared circle. However, even they had to work hard to achieve this stardom.

Lesnar signed with WWE back in 2000, and Orton signed with WWE in 2001. In 2001, Brock and Orton competed in dark matches. Recently, in an episode of Grilling JR Podcast, Jim Ross talked about the humble beginning and the dark matches that Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar had early in their career.

Jim Ross claimed he thought it was a favor for both Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar to work in front of an enormous crowd and learn how to lose the right way.

He said, “I’m not gonna say they learned in one match. The deal is that the locker room was going to be more willing to accept a Randy Orton and a Brock Lesnar, who they conceived were gonna threaten their spots.”

The WWE legend further revealed that Randy Orton and Brock’s losses had nothing to do with the lack of confidence, and it was already a foregone conclusion.

Ross added, “But for the locker room’s sake and their perception in the locker room, doing the honors, even though it was dark, was a smart thing to do. I thought that was good booking.”
