Triple H jumped ships from WCW to WWE in 1995. But, why? It’s not like HHH couldn’t have done a great job at WCW with Eric Bischoff. Why did he choose Vince McMahon over him?
Now, before getting into exactly why The Game jumped ships, it’s important to know that Ric Flair had Triple H’s back right before he did this. The Nature Boy revealed that Randy Savage wanted to squash HHH on his way out, but Flair wouldn’t have it that way.

“Savage came in that day and Savage wanted to beat Hunter in like 30 seconds. I said, ‘that ain’t going to happen.’ Savage and I had the worst argument of all time. When you like someone’s talent, you just don’t squash a guy going out the door. I don’t think you do that to a guy.” H/t WrestlingInc
Eventually, Triple H turned down a $250,000 deal to be with WWE.

Eric Bischoff wasn’t willing to pay Triple H his worth
During an interview, The Game clarified exactly what went down between him and Bischoff for him to jump ships.
Reportedly, Bischoff was ready to offer Triple H a multi-year deal, but it was for little money. As a counter-offer, HHH said he would work for a year’s contract and then Bischoff could make a decision.

When the conversation wasn’t beginning to bear fruit, Triple H found his way to a meeting with Vince McMahon. This is when The Big Man learnt The Game wanted to change the game, work with the top guys, and work everyday.
McMahon assured HHH that he would grant his wish, but can’t guarantee money. This was enough to convince him, and the rest is history.

Today, Triple H is one of the top names in WWE. Even though he retired from in-ring competition owing to heart issues, he’s still working with WWE as Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy & Development.

Now, Bischoff had a different version for why HHH jumped ships. It wasn’t particularly because of the money he was getting, but because WCW was cutting unnecessary expenses and HHH residing in the Northeast wasn’t helping.

Considering Triple H wasn’t a huge star at that point, WCW didn’t think it was worth investing in his travel back and forth. Additionally, Bischoff didn’t find HHH’s personality as engaging as the pro-wrestlers in WCW.
