NXT began its 2021 with a loaded card at NXT New Year’s Evil. In fact, it will not be an exaggeration to say that it was a TakeOver caliber show on weekly television. Karrion Kross and Damian Priest set the perfect tone to kick off the show, Raquel Gonzalez and Rhea Ripley took the women’s division to greater heights, and Finn Balor retained his NXT Championship in another classic against Kyle O’Reilly.

Kyle O’Reilly stepped up to Finn Balor for the NXT Championship again this week on NXT New Year’s Evil. The two put on a 5-star level match at NXT TakeOver: 31, and the expectations were no different this time.

WWE NXT tweeted an injury update on both Finn Balor and Kyle O’Reilly after their hard-hitting contest. They reported that both Balor and O’Reilly were on their way to a hospital.

O’Reilly’s injury was pretty evident while it’s unclear when Balor got injured. Balor placed the middle rope between O’Reilly’s teeth and kicked it hard, possibly cracking or breaking his jaw. After that, O’Reilly constantly kept favoring his jaw, and it was clear he was fighting through the pain.

After a grueling fight in the main event, Finn Balor finally walked out as the victor after O’Reilly tapped out. Both men walked in 100% in this match, but none left the same way. Like their previous encounter, this was also an all you can eat buffet with hard fearless strikes and counters.

The NXT Champion Finn Balor and challenger Kyle O’Reilly showcased what they’re capable of. Yes, they may have gone overboard to give fans a great contest and injured themselves, but that’s what all these outstanding athletes do, right? Risk their bodies for our entertainment.

We sincerely hope the injuries sustained by Kyle and Finn are minor and both men will not miss any time away from the ring. Balor just returned from a jaw injury he suffered in his match against O’Reilly at NXT TakeOver: 31, so we definitely don’t want the champ to miss out any more time. After all, Doomsday is coming for him!
