The coronavirus pandemic took some major jabs at the pre-made WWE plans. WWE supposedly planned on hosting a Queen of the Ring Tournament sometime this year. This is something that the fans have desperately been waiting for.

WWE canceled QOTR tournament

WWE’s women’s revolution witnessed immense success over the past few years. Women wrestlers saw a lot of changes in how they were booked.

Female Superstars started recording some serious achievements, soon enough. They even had one of the grandest moments in the form of main eventing WrestleMania.

When it comes to pure wrestling, the two major highlights during the movement have been the two Mae Young Classics. WWE wrestlers are given opportunities to make a name for themselves in a knock-out style competition.

There was word going around that MYC would be making a comeback for the third time in 2020. However, WWE seems to have shut down all those rumors.

Wrestling Observer has reported that they were planning on a Queen of the Ring Tournament this summer. The COVID-19 outbreak, however, forced the plan to take a back seat.

Instead of developmental and unsigned talents that form the MYC, the QOTR was scheduled to feature main roster Superstars.

“A couple of days ago we were talking about the Mae Young Classic and coronavirus and everything like that. I believe that the actual idea for this year was a Queen Of The Ring Tournament, so not a Mae Young Classic, but a Queen Of The Ring Tournament.

“That is now off due to coronavirus. Had there not been a global pandemic I believe what you would have seen this Summer is the Queen Of The Ring Tournament,” Bryan Alverez from Wrestling Observer reported.

What could have been

The QOTR would have been the all women’s PPV. Rumors have been spreading ever since Stephanie McMahon confirmed that more women-centric shows will be hosted in the future.

A year later it seemed like the WWE was about to fill that gap and allow its female superstars another spectacular achievement.

If the news of the tournament is true, we hope that this pandemic does not cause the idea to be scrapped altogether.
