WWE Fastlane 2021 featured a match for the WWE Universal Championship between defending champion Roman Reigns and challenger Daniel Bryan.

The special enforcer for this match was Edge, who is challenging the WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania.

The Fastlane match ended with Edge turning heel when he wiped out both Reigns and Bryan with a steel chair during the match. Reigns somehow recovered and pinned Bryan long enough for the three point count.

However, Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported WWE ended the match this way to convert the WrestleMania match between Edge and Roman Reigns into a triple threat match.

There were speculations that WrestleMania would become a triple threat match, but Fastlane almost confirmed it. Even though WWE has made no official announcement about this, it’s unlikely that Daniel Bryan will be removed from the Universal Championship storyline.

If at all, WWE doesn’t turn the WrestleMania main event into a Triple Threat Match, it’s possible Daniel Bryan will make an appearance during. WWE has involved all three of them in a three-way storyline for a while now, and cutting one of them will make for an incomplete finish.

However, when asked about a triple threat match, Daniel Bryan wasn’t thrilled with the idea.

WrestleMania will be Daniel Bryan’s third time challenging Roman Reigns

Daniel Bryan’s first chance at challenging for the Universal Championship was at Elimination Chamber 2021. He won the elimination chamber match and had to face Roman Reigns immediately afterwards.

Even though Bryan almost had Reigns, ‘The Tribal Chief’ broke free of the lock, and put Bryan in the Guillotine Hold, making him unconscious.

Daniel Bryan had to fight Jey Uso in a steel cage match for a second title shot at Fastlane. He defeated Uso by putting him in the Yes Lock until he tapped out.

Interestingly, Daniel Bryan did the same at Fastlane with Roman Reigns. He almost had the win after he put Reigns in the Yes Lock. Reigns tapped out, but there was nobody to record the win. It was during this time when Edge entered the ring and flattened both Reigns and Bryan with a steel chair.

The chances of Daniel Bryan becoming the Universal Champion at WrestleMania are bleak. However, WWE has twisted storylines before to keep the audience engaged.
