Along with her mother, Asuka also told her high school teacher about her dream of becoming a WWE superstar. Asuka revealed that her teacher laughed and said, ‘Don’t be silly.’

“I had no choice, I gave up on my dream once. I went to college and after graduating from college, I started training, I couldn’t give up on my dream. My friends gave me confidence, ‘You can do it, you can do it!’ I called a wrestling company in Tokyo. I left my hometown of Osaka, Japan. Now I am a WWE superstar. Don’t give up on your dream!” continued Asuka.

Asuka retired early into her career because of Nephritis, an inflammation of the kidneys. Ironically, it was apparently Asuka’s mother who urged her to fight through.

“I had a problem, but I want to entertain people. It’s my goal. My mother told me I have to fight again.”

A cultural exchange

‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ also shared some of her favorite parts of Japanese culture that included anime and cuisine.

“The graphics are beautiful and sound good. The stories are so good. I’m always watching anime and movies, but also I love American dramas. I think it’s important to enjoy and share and respect each others’ cultures.”
