The UEFA European Championships wrapped up this Sunday with Italy trouncing England to take home the cup. Luke Shaw’s early goal gave the Three Lions hope, but an equalizer from Leonardo Bonucci and Gianluigi Donnarumma’s heroics carried Italy to the trophy. Across the pond, WWE superstars expressed their elation and grief over the result.

WWE comprises many soccer fans, most of whom support clubs from Europe. Sheamus is a massive Liverpool fan while Drew McIntyre backs his hometown favorite Celtic. But at the European Championship, club soccer takes a backseat and the nations come out to play.
For fans of England who thought it was ‘coming home’, the result left them shattered. Missed penalties from Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka left MVP and Mick Foley very upset. Meanwhile, the NXT UK women’s roster held their heads in their hands after the Three Lions lost.

On the other side of things, Cesaro, Walter, Fabian Aichner, Deonna Purrazzo and Indi Hartwell celebrated Italy’s win. The Australian sensation, Hartwell cried out, ‘Azzurri!!!!!!‘ as Italy lifted the trophy. This must’ve been a decent end to her week, especially since she and Candice Le Rae lost the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships to Io Shirai and Zoey Stark last week.

Forza Italia!

Although his home team Switzerland crashed out in the quarterfinals after beating World Champions France, Cesaro congratulated the Italian team. It’s surprising the NXT UK Champion backed Italy, the team that beat his home team of Austria, and that he holds the NXT ‘UK’ Championship doesn’t bode too well for him either.

The happiest man in WWE after last night’s dramatic final was Fabian Aichner, who saw his team come from a losing position to defeat a very strong English side in awe-inspiring fashion.
