There are many actors and films that have influenced wrestlers in their work inside the squared circle, but none have been more influential than Sylvester Stallone. His movie series, Rocky, one of the best classics, is a true-to-form underdog story. It isn’t a secret that wrestling stories and babyfaces have copied this to the bone.
From Hulk Hogan to John Cena, all have played the part of Rocky in a storyline before. It also helped that WWE shoot videos of them struggling and hustling to get to their position. The done-and-dusted storyline always works and makes the audience connect with the superstar and cheer for them. But this 14-time Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair reveals another side of the coin.

While attending the 65th running of the Daytona 500, Flair sat down with the Daytona Beach News-Journal to answer some questions. First, she talked about her nearly year-long off from work. Then, she talked about her upcoming WrestleMania match with Rhea Ripley. But along that line, she also talked about her character in the ring and she explained it with the help of the classic Sylvester Stallone movie, Rocky.
In the interview, she said, “Being a good guy, in the Rocky stories, I always feel like I’m Apollo (Creed). You don’t see me in the gym, without my makeup, wearing my old T-shirt and five-year-old tennis shoes in my garage, you think Ric Flair’s daughter… You don’t see me as Rocky. And that’s the greatest good-guy story of all time, overcoming as an underdog.”
