Hulk Hogan was the ultimate baby face of WWE for almost a decade. However, he turned heel when he joined the nWo alongside Kevin Nash and Scott Hall.

The foundation of nWo was already laid by Scott Hall and Kevin Nash when they formed ‘The Outsiders’. However, they formed the nWo formally when Hogan came out as the mysterious third partner of Hall and Nash, turning heel in the process.

In the video, Hogan said, “Well, the first thing you gotta realize, brother, is this right here is the future of wrestling! You can call this the new world order of wrestling, brother! These two men right here came from a big organization up north and everybody was wondering who the third man was. Well, who knows more about that organization than me brother!”

This was the first time The Hulkster had turned heel since his AWA days in 1981. Now he was called ‘Hollywood’ Hulk Hogan, which suited the nWo heel turn.

This group changed the perspective of the industry. Because of nWo WCW went to win the Monday Night Wars for straight 83 weeks against WWE; a feat that is yet to be covered by other wrestling companies.

Dennis Rodman was in nWo because of Hulk Hogan

The nWo was wild over everywhere in the world at the time. Everybody wanted to be a member of nWo. Surprisingly, NBA Basketball player Dennis Rodman appeared on WCW in 1996 as a member of nWo.

He came into the company through his friend Hulk Hogan. The Hulkamaniac set a meeting between Rodman and Eric Bischoff. Sometime ago, on the podcast 83 Weeks, Conrad Thompson asked Eric Bischoff about the deal Rodman had with WCW.

Bischoff said, “I got a hold of Dwight Manley, who was Dennis’s agent at the time and had a great conversation with Dwight. Got right to the point and for the most part did the deal over the phone in the lobby of the airport Marriott at Atlanta, Georgia. It was a very easy deal to do.”

As per Bischoff, Rodman was a Hulk Hogan fan and joined WCW for the same reason. He also said Rodman just wanted to be in the ring and was not that much money-driven. However, for a two-year deal, Rodman made $1.6 Million which was more than many WCW wrestlers made.
