After making a WWE return and main roster debut at SummerSlam this year, Io Sky is slowly rising in the company. She is a member of Damage Control alongside WWE superstars, Bayley and Dakota Kai.

Moreover, she is also a two-time Women’s Tag Team Champion in the last five months. While on her hiatus from WWE, she was in Japan recovering at her best friend’s gym, Kairi Sane.

Io Sky, who went by Io Shirai, spent nearly four years in NXT. Her NXT debut included Sane’s presence. Sky and Sane are close friends, even though they are no longer working in the same company.

If you have followed Sky’s career from the beginning, you might know her initial NXT career began with Kairi Sane. Both the stars even formed a tag team “The Sky Pirates” on the yellow brand.

However, recently, the current Women’s Tag Team champion shared a picture on her Instagram with Sane. Sky was out due to an injury and went back to her home country for a while. She clicked a picture with Sane and posted the same recently.

The former NXT Women’s Champion wrote, “This photo was taken in June 2022.During my rehabilitation period for a broken ankle, I went to the gym owned by KAIRI @official_kairi . The gym was in a great location by the beach and the facilities were excellent. I was so happy that my friend KAIRI was doing well!🌊⚓️✨✨ #parafit24 #respect #bestfriend”

Currently, Sane is a major women wrestler in Japanese soil. Last month in November, the former WWE star became the first-ever IWGP Women’s Champion defeating Mayu Iwatani in the main event of Historic X-Over.

Moreover, there are rumors that Sane would now defend her IWGP title against Sasha Banks. Reports suggest that ‘The Boss’ has arrived in Japan and can make an appearance at Wrestle kingdom 17.

Kairi Sane’s WWE Career

The 34-year-old NJPW wrestler had matches in Japan before landing an opportunity in 2016’s Mae Young Classic. She also signed a WWE contract in the same year.

After nearly spending a year in the yellow brand, Sane became the NXT Women’s Champion in August 2018. However, her title reign ended after 71 days as Shayna Baszler won the title back.

WWE moved Sane to the main roster and teamed with Asuka as “The Kabuki Warriors”. They also won the Women’s Tag titles once. However, in 2020, she confirmed her departure from WWE and was the company’s ambassador until her contract expired.
