On SmackDown this week (05/14/21), the former IC Champion appeared via satellite and ridiculed Crews and Azeez. E name-dropped Grammy-winning artist Macklemore as he started insulting the two men inside the ring.

“This is the biggest sham of a ceremony since Macklemore won Best Rap Album of the Year,” E referred to the 2014 Grammy ceremony. “You Apollo, Don’t get too comfortable with my Intercontinental Championship. Because you Apollo, you still got to feel my power.”

For the context of E’s reference, Ryan Lewis and Macklemore won four Grammy Awards at the 2014 ceremony, including Best New Artist, Best Rap Album (The Heist), Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance (“Thrift Shop”). As we mentioned earlier, Big E was referring to this particular ceremony.

Big E, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn all want to face Apollo Crews

After Big E’s message, SmackDown’s leading conspiracy theorist Sami Zayn came down to the ring. As Zayn negotiated a truce with Crews, Zayn’s former opponent Kevin Owens came down and straight-up attacked Crews and Azeez.

However, the duo quickly overpowered Owens. Suddenly, Big E appeared and pursued Azeez.

Sami, too, joined in on the action. He missed a Helluva Kick on Owens.

Following that, Owens dropped Sami with a Stunner. Big E got up and dropped Owens with a Big Ending. Before he could catch Crews, Azeez pulled the latter to safety.

Following the altercation, Apollo and Azeez went to WWE Officials Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville. While Pearce comprehended who should get the next match against Crews next week, Deville suggested a better way.

Taking Deville’s suggestion, Pearce announced that there would be a fatal four-way match on SmackDown next week to determine the new Intercontinental Champion. Apollo would face all three of Big E, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn.

A frustrated Crews and Azeez walked away. All four men would definitely try and beat the other for a shot at the coveted Intercontinental title.
