It seems everyone wants a piece of Apollo Crews’ Intercontinental Championship. After his win at WrestleMania 37, Crews barely had a moment of relief. Now, he had to defend his title in a fatal four-way match.

On the latest edition of SmackDown(05/14/21), Crews held a ‘Nigerian Medal of Honor’ ceremony to felicitate his ‘commander’ Azeez. However, former Intercontinental Champion Big E decided to chime in.

Not only did he call the ceremony “the biggest sham since Macklemore won the best rap album,” but E also warned Apollo of his “power.” Before Crews could retaliate, another former champion came out.

SmackDown’s leading conspiracy theorist, Sami Zayn, came in peace as he tried to strike a truce with Crews. He politely asked Crews for the title shot. But soon, Zayn’s old friend and opponent Kevin Owens rushed to the ring and attacked Crews and Azeez.

The latter duo overpowered Owens easily. Then, Big E too came down, and a brawl broke out. Zayn also joined in. He missed a Helluva kick on Owens before getting the stunner.

Big E, in turn, performed the Big Ending on Owens. Before he could get his hands on Crews and Azeez, the duo fled the ring.

SmackDown would have a fatal four-way match next week

After the shocking attack, Crews and Azeez went in to complain to WWE Official Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville. While Crews never understood why all these men were after him, Crews and Deville had a better idea.

Deville suggested that every man can face Crews at the same time. Reiterating Deville’s statement, Adam Pearce then scheduled a fatal-four-way match between Big E, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and the Champion Apollo Crews for next week’s SmackDown.

While Crews is not so thrilled about the prospect, he has no choice but to oblige. It is hard to say who would emerge as the winner from the sudden catch, but it is safe to assume Crews would hold on to the title for a while to establish himself as a credible champion.

Big E and Sami Zayn have a legitimate claim to the title as the two were former champions recently. But it is strange to see Owens pursue the title as well.
