After a stellar victory against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 37, it is time for Cesaro to move onto better things. On the SmackDown following Mania (04.16.21), the “Swiss Cyborg” tried to embark upon a new journey – pursuing the Universal title.

On the Blue Brand, he “interrupted” Roman Reigns’ celebration. Roman Reigns said no one wanted to face him after what he did to Hall of Famers Edge and Daniel Bryan.

However, before he could leave the ring, Cesaro came out to the ring to address the aforementioned comments. But before he could say anything, Reigns, Paul Heyman, and Jey Uso left the ring unceremoniously.

This blatant display of disrespect led him to WWE official Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville. The former demanded a match, with or without the Universal title. Later in the night, Heyman “answered” Cesaro’s calls.

Heyman called Cesaro a “neanderthal” and revealed Cesaro would face Jey Uso. Calling him a “joke,” Heyman wanted to stop his train before it got anywhere. Following the announcement, fans drowned the arena in boos.

Ahead of the main event, Cesaro responded to Heyman. He proclaimed that he was going to prove he belonged in the ring with Reigns after defeating Jey Uso.

Cesaro is attacked in the main event

Before the match, Roman Reigns seemed annoyed at his possible new opponent. As he spoke to Heyman and Uso, Reigns asked the latter to teach Cesaro “a lesson.”

To kick off the all-important battle, the “Swiss Superman,” tried to get the early pin following a backbreaker. Uso targeted Cesaro’s arm but was sent to the floor following a super-kick as SmackDown went to commercial.

Back from the break, there were multiple pin attempts from both men. Cesaro’s Neutralizer and Swing were both blocked by Uso, who hit a neck breaker for a close two-count.

Towards the end, Cesaro gets another opening following a lariat. He called for the Cesaro Swing, but his WrestleMania opponent, Seth Rollins, appeared out of nowhere and attacked Cesaro in the middle of the ring.

The referee declared Cesaro the winner via disqualification, but Rollins kept attacking. As “revenge” for his WrestleMania embarrassment, Rollins declared that “nothing was over” until he said so as SmackDown went off-air.

To be very honest, determining the next opponent for Reigns would be quite difficult as of now. None of Reigns’ WM 37 opponents showed up on SmackDown this week. However, they might come back later and demand a rematch before Reigns kickstarts a dream rivalry with Cesaro.

Cesaro, on the other hand, deserves every shot at the title. However, his “unfinished business” with Rollins might hinder that path. Apart from him, there are many opponents for Reigns like Big E, Shinsuke Nakamura, Rollins, and more.

Quite frankly, it is too soon for WWE to decide Reigns’ next opponent. However, fans will be hoping to see more of “the Swiss Machine” in the upcoming days.
