Tonight’s SmackDown(15/1/21) had some really interesting matches. Apart from some intense segments, those matches reflected and built on some possible feuds.

Let’s take a quick look back at the matches of the Blue Brand.

#1 Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Jey Uso

For the first match of the night, we had a “rematch” between Uso and Nakamura. Last week, Nakamura almost became the Number 1 contender for Roman Reigns‘ Universal Championship. However, both Uso and Reigns decided otherwise.

Before the match, Uso announced his entry into the Royal Rumble, and during the match with Nakamura’s tag partner, Cesaro did too. Cesaro joined in on the commentary and said he would go after Reigns if he wins the Rumble.

In the match, both Nakamura and Uso fought well as the match came to some real close counts. Uso almost won, but the referee called him out over the use of ropes. Taking advantage of the altercation, Nakamura hit the Kinshasa for the win.

#2 Natalya defeated Liv Morgan

The ‘Queen of Harts’ got rid of her losing streak tonight on SmackDown. However, it was Billie Kay who aided her in this achievement.

Kay sported a new look as she aligned herself with the Riott Squad. As Natalya and Morgan went at it, Tamina and Ruby Riott showed their support for their respective friends at ringside.

Natalya, on multiple occasions, almost defeated Morgan. This led Kay to shout at Riott for not helping her friend.

Kay kept yelling at ringside, at the referee, and everyone else. As Kay made her way outside the arena, she stumbled upon the ring and back out, distracting Liv Morgan.

Taking advantage of the situation, Natalya rolled Liv up for the win.

#3 King Corbin defeated Rey Mysterio

Dominik joined the commentary table to provide some moral (and other) support to his father. From the beginning, Corbin kept taunting the duo.

Corbin overpowered Mysterio on multiple occasions as he choked and kicked him. Mysterio eventually got an opening for the 629, but Corbin turned it into a Deep Six for a close 2 count.

Corbin got frustrated, and all men came outside of the ring. Dominik went to Corbin at ringside and as Corbin rolled Rey back in, he hit Dominik.

Rey attacked Corbin and waited for an opening, but Dominik entered the ring. Rey got busy letting Dominik out of the ring and taking advantage of the distraction, as Corbin pinned Rey with the End of Days.

#4 Cesaro defeated Daniel Bryan

In another heavyweight match, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan went head to head. This was the former’s first major singles match in a while.

Both Cesaro and Daniel Bryan went at it. On one occasion, Daniel Bryan dropped Cesaro awkwardly on the mat, but he quickly recovered. Bryan also got an awkward knee move.

Cesaro and Daniel Bryan both applied their submissions, the Yes Lock and the Sharpshooter, respectively. Both Cesaro and Bryan kicked out of some close counts.

Finally, Cesaro won with the Neutralizer out of nowhere after a Yes Lock from the former World Champ.

#5 Apollo Crews defeated Sami Zayn

In the last match of the night, Sami Zayn and Apollo Crews went one-on-one. Zayn entered the ring with his camera crew as the Intercontinental Champion Big E joined in on the commentary. Crews immediately started overpowering Zayn.

Both men fought outside the ring for a while and Crews hit a moonsault on Zayn from the announce table. Inside the ring, Crews kept overpowering Zayn.

Zayn, however, got an opening after an elbow to the face from the second rope. After back-to-back pin attempts, the former Intercontinental Champion used the tights for leverage over Crews.

After he was caught, Sami had an altercation with the referee and taking advantage of the situation, Crews rolled him up, using the tights for leverage. But this time the referee did not see it and Crews won.

After the match, Kevin Owens returned as the surprise opponent for Roman Reigns at Royal Rumble 2021.
