The SmackDown after WWE Survivor Series was definitely one to remember. Apart from some scathing promos, the blue brand was full of controversial and unexpected match results.
The first match of the night got canceled. Jey Uso attacked Otis with a steel chair, and Otis had to leave the arena with some officials. The next match was between tag teams.
Roode and Ziggler ridiculed Otis and the champions before entering the ring. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins entered and talked about taking the torch from RAW Tag Team Champions The New Day at Survivor Series. The Profits were up, and they wanted the smoke.
The match was a good one with equal efforts from both sides. However, towards the end, Dawkins hit The Anointment on Roode. Ford tagged in and hit the big Cash Out splash to Roode for a close 2 count as Ziggler interrupted.
Ford and Ziggler fought amidst themselves as Roode took the advantage. Roode rolled Ford up for the pin and the victory.
Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn felt constantly disrespected by WWE Authority and the fans. He said Daniel Bryan did not deserve a title match.
Bryan gained momentum in the match several times. With dropkicks and armbars, Bryan methodically dismantled Zayn. The former WWE Champion almost won the match with the Yes Lock, but Zayn broke free.
Bryan got hit with a huge brainbuster to the apron but continued fighting. Zayn ran off backstage, and Bryan chased him. Although Zayn soon came running back, Bryan was nowhere to be found.
As Sami won through count out, we saw how Jey Uso assaulted and stalled Bryan. Kevin Owens separated the two.
Bianca faced off against Natalya as Bayley joined in the commentary. The former Women’s Champion blamed Belair for Team SmackDown’s loss at Survivor Series.
Natalya hit Belair with a snap suplex in the middle of the ring. She raised Belair in a Surfboard submission. Belair gained the upper hand as she sent her to the turnbuckle and then to the floor.
Bayley yelled at Belair from commentary. Natalya came from behind, but Belair ducked and ended up punching Bayley.
Natalya brought Belair back to the ring as Bayley came back on the apron. Bianca sent Natalya onto Bayley, sending the latter to the floor. Belair secured the win with a quick roll up on Natalya.
Post-match, Bayley hinted she will come back to the ring to settle the scores with Belair.
Although his first match with Otis got canceled, Baron Corbin found himself facing Murphy. The latter was accompanied to the ring by the Mysterio Family.
Throughout the match, the Mysterio Family was constantly interrupting. Rey, Dominik, and Aalyah did everything, be it distracting the referee and Corbin, or saving Murphy from the offense.
Towards the end, Murphy kicked Corbin and ended up in pinfall combination. Although Corbin initially had his foot on the bottom rope, Dominik pushed it away, and the referee counted the pin.
From the beginning of SmackDown, Uso seemed unhinged. First, he attacked Otis, and then, Daniel Bryan. Kevin Owens got involved in the Samoan Family drama as the main event took place.
Paul Heyman and Universal Champion Roman Reigns watched from backstage as Owens faced Uso. The match was going well as both men tried to gain the upper hand on the other.
However, things got out of hand when Uso brought a steel chair from under the ring. The referee called off the match as Uso attacked Owens with the chair.
After the chair shots, Owens gained the upper hand and laid Uso down with a stunner and several chair shots. Owens issued an open challenge to Reigns as he asked him “to come and find him.”
Apart from this, Sasha Banks appeared on Carmella’s segment and assaulted her. Big E and Sami Zayn hinted at a possible feud.
